What everyone got wrong

The framing that dominated 2024 was risk from AI. Model hallucinations. Prompt injection vulnerabilities. Non-deterministic outputs in production. All real, but they led engineering teams to treat AI governance as a separate track, a new checklist layered on top of existing processes.

That framing is wrong, and it's expensive to be wrong about it. The practices that govern how AI-integrated software behaves in production are the same practices that govern software generally. They're just under more pressure now. Architecture Decision Records matter more when model selection carries organisational risk. Dependency management matters more when AI SDK behaviour changes with a version bump. Branch protection and PR review quality matter more when the volume of generated code is compressing the attention available for review.

Introducing Velocity Governance
